Jean-Paul Favand is a unique designer. After a career that took him from notary to antiquarian activity. He specializes in the antiquity of curiosity and accumulates objects and is passionate about theater. Thus his collection is seen as «a troupe of objects-actors». In 1977 he recreates a fair for the inauguration of the Forum des Halles in Paris. Many exhibitions will follow, both in France and abroad.
His collection of pieces accumulates, he looks for a place to store them. In 1996, he finally discovered a space in the old cellars of Bercy that was equal to his project, open a museum. But a museum without nostalgia, the Museum of Fairground Arts.
Immense magical place covering an area of fourteen hectares. At the same time heritage conservation (restoration of rides saved from disappearance); laboratory (technological innovations: his research will make him discover two Dioramas in 2008 (paintings on two faces animated by lighting and transparency games giving the illusion of movement), he will perfect the device through digital; scenography (innovative stages designed to make people dream).
